The staff at Casa Comodín is bilingual. Sometimes, residents really want to improve their Spanish, so we tend to focus on speaking spanish at the table or in other settings. At other times, the consensus leans towards English, so that the Colombians get to improve their English. And sometimes it just all devolves into a good old-fashioned “spanglish,” as we all discover new ways to express ourselves. So, it’s up to each individual; if you want to improve or learn spanish, we can make that happen!

Since 2022 we have broadband, so the internet and Wifi are pretty fast and connection is stable (ping 20ms, Up/Down 12 Mbps). Depending on how far you are from the main station the signal gets weaker, of course.

This - of course - entirely depends on your needs. But we provide the basics you need for your stay....

We are located in Guatapé, Antioquía. The fastest (most direct) way to get here from Medellin (2 hrs) or the Airport (1 hr) is by car. If you don't have your own car, you can take any Uber or Taxi from Medellin or the Airport. Taking the bus is much cheaper and also quite fast still.

To/From Medellín by Bus:

Direct buses from Medellín leave from the Terminal del Norte (directly connected to the Caribe Metro Station), passing through El Peñol and the entrance to La Piedra on the way to Guatapé (about two hours).
Buses leave approximately every 30min.

The last bus from Medellín to Guatapé is at 7:00pm. The last bus from Guatapé to Medellín is at 6:30pm (7:45pm on Sundays and Holiday Mondays) – Schedule changes do occur. Please make sure to check the current bus schedule. Return buses to Medellín fill up quickly on weekends – buy your ticket in advance.

From the Guatapé bus terminal you can take a Mototaxi or "Motochiva" to the Casa, only a 10-15min ride or so. Ask for Quebrada Arriba, or contact us for the details about our trusted drivers.

If you or your friends have any books or CDs / DVDs that you´re no longer using and would like to find a home for; they will be more than welcome at our library, and be of good use here. Especially the local people really appreciate it. The same for old electronics – people here in Colombia can always use these things, as they can be very expensive for them to purchase.

For the most part the climate here, being located at an elevation of 1,800 meters above sea level, is considered temperate, with typical daytime temperatures oscillating between 18 - 23 Celsius. La Eterna Primavera!

You might need a sweater or hoodie in the evening and first couple hours of the morning, but by late morning, you might be down to a T-shirt.

Basically, there are supposedly two 'seasons'; rainy and dry. When it’s rainy, it tends to be more overcast, with about an hour of precipitation every day, mostly at night.

The traditional 'seasons' are:

Rainy: May - July and Oct - Dec

Dry: Jan - March and August - Sept

Having said that, lately these periods tend to be inaccurate perhaps because of global warming or “el niño/la niña” Here's an official climate update for the region -(https://www.climate.gov/enso).

But even the most rainy season, whenever that might be, it tends to be quite pleasant still!
